This week, Bud McCrory and Monica Allen with Mobile Area Water and Sewer System visited with me and Mary Booth to talk about all things MAWSS. We chatted about their new Citizens Water Academy, and about MAWSS in general. The podcast interview can be heard below. ( And, no, I did not ask them about Freddy's water bill.)

"Most people do not give a great deal of thought about where their water comes from. They turn the faucet on and expect clean water to flow out. This month, a select group of community members will learn the complicated process that transforms raindrops to drinking water and wastewater to high-quality reclaimed water during Mobile Area Water and Sewer System’s inaugural Citizens Water Academy. The series of classes will give participants an in-depth understanding of what it takes to keep our water and sewer systems working.
Attendees will learn the history of MAWSS and the strategy behind the “Keep Water Working” campaign. Participants will explore the use and management of water and treatment and conveyance of wastewater in Mobile. Also scheduled is an enlightening session on how MAWSS customers’ water fees are allocated.
Attendees will receive approximately 15 hours of instruction from MAWSS experts and tours of the facilities. Classes are Monday, Jan. 14, and Wednesday, Jan. 30, from 8:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. with the final class and graduation ceremony Tuesday, Feb. 12, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Academy students apply for the program which is offered at no cost to the attendee provided they complete the entire program. MAWSS has received more applications than spots available in the first class. Interested citizens are encouraged to sign up for future classes by emailing, “I am interested in the Citizens Water Academy,” to publicrelations@mawss.com
