I was looking through my old newspaper archives and stumbled across an article written about lifting the toll from the Bankhead Tunnel.
The article is from November 24th, 1963. The article, written by longtime Press Register reporter Bill Sellers, explains that the toll would eventually be lifted in the 1970's.
The most interesting part in the article is where is explains how the old Bankhead Tunnel was paid for: "not a penny" of local taxes were used!
I understand it is awkward to read the article the way I cobbled it together below, but it was the best I could do!
