While You're Grading Super TV Commercials, Grade MY Local Commercials

The Place to be in 1990

It is always entertaining and astonishing and baffling to see the new tv commercials every year during the "Big Game." We often grade the commercials and critique them. Did we even understand what the commercial was trying to sell us?

While you evaluate the tv commercials of the "Big Game," please also evaluate some of my old tv commercial work from 30 years ago. We produced all of our tv commercials with almost zero budget. The fact that we had a few graphics even blows my mind. In most of these commercials, we just pointed the camera and stuff and talked about it. And it worked! Yes, these old commercials may look primitive, like caveman paintings on cave walls, but these commercials did get the message across.

The first two commercials below are for the old Lumberyard Cafe on Dauphin Street. For a few years, it was THE place to go and be!

471-DEAN

This next tv commercial played a small part in launching the Dean McCrary Automotive Empire. A very small part.

The commercial below is not an example of my typical work. It actually had a script! And It was produced by a couple of people who knew what they wanted! I think it was over produced. I should have just eaten some friend chicken on the Amaz-A-Mat and it might have taken off.
