"An Extremely Dangerous Major Hurricane"-- Ida Could Reach Cat 4 Status


The verbiage changed with the 4pm update from the National Hurricane Center.

Instead of "a major hurricane," the update says "Ida is expected to be an extremely dangerous major hurricane when it approaches the northern Gulf coast on Sunday."

The cone is narrowing, which you can tell from the warnings and watches issued.

* Lake Pontchartrain, Lake Maurepas, and Metropolitan New Orleans

A Hurricane Watch is in effect for...

* Mouth of the Pearl River to the Mississippi/Alabama border

* Mouth of the Pearl River to the Mississippi/Alabama border

A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for...

* Mississippi/Alabama border to the Alabama/Florida border
