AL.com reports Club Xcite is causing quite the commotion on Dauphin St in Mobile. The city is considering if the business is violating zoning restrictions by opening a gentlemen's club. Club owner LaTausha Taylor says they aren't violating any zoning restrictions at all. Originally from Indianapolis, Taylor has spent many years in the Mobile Market and understood Club Xcite had to fit within the Mobile zoning laws, set aside for Dauphin St. specifically. She says they are NOT a strip club.
Taylor understands the concerns and reassures that "We're going to do it with dignity, we're going to do it with integrity."
Xcite celebrated a "sneak peak kick off" last Friday and received a Notice of Violation from Mobile's Planning and Zoning Department. The notice said the business appeared to be in violation of zoning restrictions.
To be clear, it's not a notice to shut down, only a warning to discontinue any zoning violations.
Many took to social media to share there thoughts:
With posts and advertising like this, it's no wonder why some people may be confused:
Taylor says, "No one from my side has ever presented Xcite as a strip club. I think the word 'Xzotic' threw them off."
WPMI received a quote from Taylor reassuring her business is legit, "This is not a strip club. Our dancers are clothed and covered. We are looking for dancers to work here, not strippers. I spoke with a zoning officer and my legal team and we are working to remedy this”.
Many locals are concerned with the outward appearance of such a club on Dauphin St. Many feel the club would make Dauphin St. less family friendly.
What do you think? Is Dauphin St. family friendly to begin with?
