Early this afternoon, the Mobile City Council voted down Mayor Sandy Stimpson's annexation proposal.
Numerous spoke spoke for an against the proposal before the vote. Former Mobile Mayor Mike Dow spoke in favor of annexation. Former Mayor Sam Jones spoke out against annexation, and his rant lasted over 13 minutes!
The vote was along racial lines. The white members of the council supported annexation, the African American members of the council voted against annexation. Councilpersons Fred Richardson, C.J. Small and Levon Manzie say their votes had nothing to do with ethnicity.
