Mobile's Saenger Theater Will Remain Closed A Bit Longer

The Saenger Theater in Mobile is still in the midst of a mold removal project that has kept the historic venue off limits to the public for a couple of months. The 92-year-old venue is getting a thorough cleaning from top to bottom, and a special vacuum is being used to suck up the mold. A few shows had already been rescheduled or moved to the Mobile Civic Center Theater. But the Saenger's management had been hoping the $734,000 project would be done by the end of October.

Not so much.

In a recent Facebook post, management said they weren't able to finish up in time due to "...challenges and setbacks, along with our team’s number one priority of ensuring the preservation of the 92-year-old theatre." But things are moving along well, and with the exception of two more events that are being moved/rescheduled, there shouldn't be any more issues.

The latest events affected include:

  • Gary Allan on November 7th -- That show is being moved to the Mobile Civic Center Theater. Ticket holders will be given similar seats to what they purchased at the Saenger.
  • Moon Tax on November 9th -- That show will be at the Saenger Theater, but it's been moved to December 9th.

Upcoming events at Mobile's Saenger Theater include The Elf on the Shelf -- A Christmas Musical, happening November 20th; plus Mobile Symphony Orchestra concerts, Black Jacket Symphony's Led Zeppelin show, The Robert Cray Band, Kidz Bop World Tour, and (maybe a bit controversially) disgraced comedian Louis C.K.. He's trying to make a comeback following sexual misconduct allegations in 2017, at the height of #MeToo.
