Marine Veteran Walking Across The Country To Raise Awareness About PTSD

A 22-year veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps is walking across the United States in an effort to raise awareness and money for soldiers suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. Ron Wesley Brady Jr. left San Diego on March 5th and has been making his way toward Quantico, Virginia where his brother is buried. After he visits the grave of his brother, who committed suicide, Brady Jr. will walk to Trenton, New Jersey, where his friend and fellow Marine, Tommy Simpson, who also killed himself, was laid to rest.

Brady Jr. told Fox 5 that he is trying to shed light on the high suicide rate of veterans who are returning home following lengthy tours of duty.

"My goal is to raise awareness for PTSD, traumatic brain injury, and the suicide rate.," Brady said. "We're dealing with 22 a day, alright? We need to get out and talk to each other, Veterans, we need to talk to veterans. We understand each other."

A GoFundMe page set up to help Brady Jr. cover the cost of the cross-country journey has raised over $7,500, surpassing his goal of $4,000. Any money left over after the trip will be donated to the Combat Wounded Veteran Challenge.

Brady Jr. hopes to finish his 2,700-mile walk by September.
