Birmingham; One of the Worst Cities To Live In?

Birmingham, what's up? We just wanted to say we love you. We just wanted to reach out and say we care. Your iconic Vulcan statue reminds us you guys are the leaders in steel and iron working in the South. Your scenery is gorgeous with your lakes and forests surrounding the city. And man, do you guys pull some great live acts through for regular shows and for festivals.

A recent publication by 24/7 Wall St. ranked the top 5 worst cities to live in. They took many things into account like poverty, crime rate, population and employment. You can see a full run down of the list here. We have a Cliff Note version for you below:

5.) Memphis

4.) St. Louis

3.) Flint

2.) Birmingham

1.) Detroit

The analyst cites that Birmingham has a struggling economy due to declining population and jobs. They've seen a rapid decline in jobs over the past few years actually. And it's also one of the poorest cities in the US. About 29% of the city lives in poverty, that's roughly double the 14% poverty rate of the entire US.

This isn't the first time Birmingham has been listed as a bad place to live (according to stats). See here, here and here.

We know great people work, live and play in Birmingham. What do you think could make the city even better? Let us know in the comments below.
