Mobile Tree Commission Votes To Cut Down Oak Trees

The Mobile Tree Commission has voted 3 to 1 to allow 55 trees to be cut down, including oak trees.

This devastation of the local tree community is the result of Mobile seeking and getting a federal grant. The federal grant will be used to update and beautify Broad Street. And the project allegedly cannot be completed within federal grant guidelines unless all 55 trees are cut down.

One member of the tree commission asked the city for a delay, but officials said if the city waits, that delay could harm the entire project. I guess the trees will be cut down in a hurry.
